Taste Tibet 2.0 – A Sneak Peek

For those of you who missed the news (and blink and maybe you did – Chef Yeshi doesn’t like “bragging”, as he calls it), Taste Tibet took on new premises earlier this year, which we are currently in the process of redeveloping. Yeshi doesn’t like to do things by halves – have you seen this size of our pots/ladles/cool boxes? So why not take on a wreck and rebuild? This is not a man daunted by a challenge.

I put it down to his lack of formal schooling as a child. Yeshi didn’t attend school until he was already a young adult, and one result of this is that he never had the stuff of life kicked out of him. He never experienced the disappointment of coming last or being told he wasn’t good enough. He never had to learn his place. This is a man with a firmly can-do attitude.

Back to Taste Tibet 2.0. Our new premises on Magdalen Road in East Oxford (opposite the Rusty Bicycle and next to the Magic Cafe) will be a shop where you can stop by to pick up all the good stuff for reheating at home, as well as a cafe where you can kick back with a cup of chai and a bowl of something steaming.

It is still in a state of complete disrepair:

But you can see that there are some great original features, and we are going to do our best to preserve these and honour them. Conversations with one of Oxford’s great historians, Stephanie Jenkins, have unearthed some fascinating insights into the history of the building and previous occupants of the shop. Watch this space for more.

Meanwhile we are back after a week off enjoying the sunshine, and our home deliveries resume this Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. Click here to order yours! Every momo you consume goes a long way to helping us get our new place up and running, so thank you so much for all your support.
