Plates and Bowls

Happy week of hospitality and hugs!

Finally we can have you indoors, and this is a big moment for us as:

1. We opened in the middle of Lockdown 2 and have had just a two-week window for nervous indoor dining ever since.

2. It means plates and bowls and all kinds of things we’ve never done before.

We have always been a takeaway first and foremost. Our natural home is at festivals, but our long-running stall in Oxford’s Gloucester Green market earned us Top Ten accolades from the Guardian and the BBC Good Food Magazine despite its humble status (NB that’s not us operating out of Gloucester Green any more! A former employee just happens to be running a very similar menu…).

We did host an off-season pop up inside the wonderful Silvie on Iffley Road (reopening soon), but when spoons and forks were required we borrowed these from the Silvie kitchens, and we hid behind this crockery very happily.

Well this week we present you our all singing all dancing new kitchen range made primarily from wheat straw, but also from bamboo (h/t to our friend Anna, prop stylist extraordinaire). We are really excited because these are both ideal zero waste options.

Wheat straw is the byproduct left over after the wheat harvest: it’s the part of the plant that keeps it standing up. When combined with sugar, wheat straw can be fashioned into a bio-plastic – a natural, rather than artificial one. It is biodegradable, sustainable and degradable. It’s also very hard to break. Likewise bamboo: look out for our beautiful bamboo noodle bowls coming soon (soup noodles are on the horizon…).

This week we are sticking to our normal opening hours, as follows:

Thursday: lunch 11.30am – 2.30pm / dinner 5pm – 9pm

Friday: lunch 11.30am – 2.30pm / dinner 5pm – 9pm

Saturday: lunch 11.30am – 2.30pm / dinner 5pm – 9pm

Our menu, however, is changing, especially at lunchtime. Come for some amazing brand new menu options – details are up on the website now. Note that last week’s tofu curry (pictured) is back on our dinner menu this week due to popular demand!

Eat indoors or out, or drop in for wonderful, old-fashioned takeaway. Our freezers are filling with ready meals too. Just swing by (no table bookings) or you can pre-order for evening takeaways on 01865499318 from 4pm on the day. The best time to call is between 4 and 5pm before we open.

Looking forward to having you in soon.
