Did you miss us? We had a lovely week off in Wales. Yeshi went paddle boarding and didn’t make any momos.
Back paying the bills now – literally. How much would you lay out for a pitch at one of the UK’s best-loved music festivals? Clue: that would be more than you think. Over £10k left the bank this morning for the two events that we’re attending later in the month.
And there’s more that you don’t know about how the festivals business works: many organisers take a cut (anything up to 30%) of everything that goes through the till on top of fees paid. When cash was the only form of payment that traders could accept this transaction was based purely on trust. Later we sent a daily report from our own card readers. Now, thanks in large part to Covid, many festivals have gone cashless, and the organisers are requiring traders to use a till provided by the event – at the expense of the trader – so that no momo goes unaccounted for.
Festival trading has always been a playground for the #proudlyindependent, but with terms like these you do start to feel that you’re not working for yourself any more. It’s not the end of the world, but it does make the events business less fun! We felt quite dizzied by the whole affair earlier in the season and skipped Latitude, one of our favourite festivals, but we are gearing up for some great events at the end of August. This means that we will be closed the weeks of 16th and 23rd August, so do come and eat with us before we close the doors again. We are also running a Buy One Get One Half Price deal on all our frozen ready meals this week for everyone signed up to our mailing list (head to www.tastetibet.com to join). These will help to tide you over while our doors are shut, or come to stock up to take your holiday home.
We are open for takeaway or indoor/outdoor dining as usual this week. Our menu is live on the website now. Here’s a run-down of our opening hours:
Wednesday: 5.30-9.30pm (dinner only)
Thursday – Saturday: 12-3pm (lunch) / 5.30-9.30pm (dinner)
We don’t take table bookings but you can pre-order your evening takeaway any time from 4.30pm on the day. Call us on 01865499318. The best time to ring is before we open at 5.30pm.
Thank you and see you soon!
