Chilli Oil Has Landed

It’s only taken us seven years, but Yeshi’s legendary chilli oil has finally hit the shelves!

In Tibet, sepen, as this oil is known, is brought out at every mealtime – even breakfast. Yeshi loves to slosh a bit into his scrambled eggs, consumes copious amounts with his momos, and will chuck it onto my shepherd’s pie with gusto. Not because I can’t hold my own in the kitchen, but because this is just how Tibetan people eat!

Tibetan food isn’t usually very spicy, but every dinner table features at least one type of home-made sepen, and this delicious dip sits on the sidelines waiting to bring to life even the simplest of dishes. Slow-cooked with hot chilli, Sichuan peppercorns, ginger and a host of other miracle ingredients, it serves to complement a dish, rather than to overpower it, and has a distinct tongue-tingling taste.

Add it to your pasta sauce or home-made curry – anything that you fancy a kick out of. In Tibet a favourite pairing is yoghurt: try it! This has been Taste Tibet’s secret weapon from the get-go and now we put it into your hands. We will not be watching and we hope you consumer it with all the wild abandon as your chef.
