In normal times we’d have dusted off our festival tent by now and be out in the fields. When big events return we’ll be there again – it’s our natural home.
Yeshi loves to be outdoors more than anything. Back home in Tibet the winters can be perishingly cold and fresh food options are limited, so during summertime the family make sure to get out and enjoy the warm weather and the abundance of the year’s first harvest. In Yeshi’s village, at relatively low altitude, there are two growing seasons in a year. After the second harvest, many vegetables are put away for use over the long, barren wintertime, but during the first, the fruits of their labour can be enjoyed with abundance.
Between June and September, friends and family picnic together under the shade of a tall white poplar on the banks of a beautiful river, or out on the green grasslands. A delicious spread is laid out on handwoven rugs and is enjoyed over the course of the day. Music, dancing and games run alongside. Do click if you have half an interest in watching monks skipping, wriggling through tyres and somersaulting barrels. The monastic life is more colourful than you might imagine.
Our food is perfect for picnics, so drop by early evening to pick up yours, and grab yourself a Buddha beer while you’re at it. Or if you’re planning a barbecue, our chilli oil is a great accompaniment. Slosh it over your skewers or slice up some veggies and get dunking.
