Zoom in and you will be able to make out the blue premises license application on the front door:
The strange twists and turns of life (I used to be a dictionary editor, you know).
This is the final stage of a long drawn-out process of applying for an alcohol license for our new place.
The first step – for those with more of a passing interest than I’ve ever had – is to get yourself a personal licence. In normal times this would mean attending a course up in north Oxford, but this being 2020 I did the exam in my home office, which involved setting up cameras around the room so that someone could observe my every move. No Googling! Well, I now know what to do with you if you’re stumbling near our momos, and I’m proud to say that I hold the position of Designated Premises Supervisor for Taste Tibet – a qualification I definitely never imagined having to my name.
Making the personal license functional at an actual premises involves all kinds of paperwork including a fantastically archaic listing in the Oxford Mail, an ad that costs just shy of £400, folks! I am happy to say that we are now nearly there, and expecting to be serving beer with your momos early in the new year.
We have always thought of momos and beer as the perfect pairing, but now we would love to hear from you as to what booze you’d like to swig with your faves. Noodles and negroni? Smacked cucumber with whiskey smash? We will be licensed for off-sales as well as consumption on the premises, so this is your opportunity to tell us what you’d like to see more of in the hood.
We have novelty ideas aplenty – more on that later – but essentially we are thinking of launching with beer and some simple wine offerings, possibly even a wine in a can-type situation.
Please let us know what you think! We’d especially like to hear from you if you have particular recommendations or contacts in the business. We want to make sure that we stock what you drink, so this is your opportunity.
Email us! Or come and tell us in store. We are open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week, 5-8.30pm. Some dine in and dine out is now possible. Plenty of seating both inside and outside the restaurant. Try us – we are really enjoying seeing the space being used.
This week’s menu goes live on our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter on Thursday morning. Newsletter subscribers! We are offering a 10% discount on our food again this Thursday 17th December. To claim the deal, please quote the passcode CHANG (“beer”) when you order.
Finally, thanks so much for all your gift voucher orders – we are looking forward to having you redeem them. If you would like to buy a voucher for someone you love (or yourself, why not!) they are available on our website. We are sending them out inside a beautiful hand-made Tibetan gift cards – see below.
We close for Christmas on Saturday 19th December, and will be back in the New Year. Hope you all enjoy your break, and thank you SO much for all your support during the annus horribilis. Good health and good wishes to all x
