Reopening Tomorrow!

Thank you to everyone in Oxford who has waited for us to reopen after our summer of festivals. Unbelievably, the restaurant has been closed since June 7th – far too long. So we’re super excited to announce that doors are opening again tomorrow, Wednesday 10th September, at 5pm. It’s about time! We love the idea of holiday, but we’re not very good at it.

Officially, we’ve been off work since the day after we broke down on a slip road in Northamptonshire on August 25th, the bank holiday. It was a hot one, and we were on our way back from our final festival of the year, looking forward to chilling in the back garden that evening with the kids. You know, like other people do on a bank holiday Monday.

But situations happen and this dream of normality did not come to pass. When we finally got in at 10pm we were too tired to raise a glass. We resolved to enjoy our break before the restaurant reopened nonetheless.

People, I’d love to say we’ve made the most, but as many small businesses owners will know, it’s hard to get away unless you actually go away – there’s always something you can be doing. We mooched about in Oxford and time passed.

But there’s something else going on as well. Once upon a time Yeshi was a nomad in Tibet, a lifestyle that rarely allows for time off. Out on the Plateau, even sleep can be hard to come by: weather conditions can be extreme and wild animals are a constant threat. During wintertime, the family herd still needs tending every day, and there’s a thousand jobs sitting waiting that the nomad has no time for during his many months away from home.

We’ve had some fun the last two weeks (we even got Chef up ladders and down zip wires at Go Ape – our Instagram has moving images!)), but I’ve come to the conclusion that the closest Yeshi actually gets to downtime is when he’s cooking. These last couple of weeks he’s been happiest when he’s been boiling up something delicious or manning the BBQ under skies no longer really light enough for an evening outdoors with friends.

So don’t fret about us, but rather come and enjoy. The restaurant will be back in full swing from tomorrow and Yeshi will be doing what he loves best: looking after you in all the ways he knows how. Please swing by for dine in or take away – we’ve missed you!

Our opening hours this week are as follows:

Weds – Fri: 5-9.30pm (dinner only)
Saturday: 12-3 / 5-9.30pm
Sunday: 12-3 / 5-9pm

This week’s menu is up on the website – check it.

Freezer food: a heads up that current stocks are extremely low – please bear with us while we refill. If you don’t find what you’re looking for this week please try us again from next Wednesday. We’re working hard to cook delicious dishes for your freezers.

Finally, what about a free chai this week? Just subscribe to our weekly Substack to receive news and offers direct to your inbox.

Thanks so much to everyone for bearing with us and we can’t wait to see you!
