If you’ve been by our shop on Magdalen Road recently you may have noticed our new fridge/freezers (and then again you may not – we have you in and out of there very quickly, much to everyone’s great sadness, but also great relief I guess).
Soon – or as soon as we’ve sorted out some stickers (can you help or do you know someone who can? Please drop us a line) we are planning to launch the shop element of our new premises. We are slowly stocking our freezers with all your favourite curries and momos, and we look forward to unlocking these before too long so that you can swing by to pick these up at your convenience.
To someone who comes from Tibet, the very idea of freezers is actually ludicrous. Back home, Yeshi’s family have to do what they can to keep food warm during these winter months. They do this using the timeworn method of digging out caves in the mountainside behind their home and storing their food inside to keep it from perishing in the frost.
This is a lifesaver during winter. Without these caves, they would eat very little – if any – fresh vegetables during the cold season. This way they are able to keep plentiful cabbages, mooli, potatoes and turnips for use throughout the barren months of winter. Genius.
We are delivering again this Thursday. This is a delivery of chilled food – not frozen – for you to reheat at home at your convenience. Most menu items are suitable for home freezing: click here for more info. We will be visiting doorsteps in Oxford and also ABINGDON and DIDCOT – please tell your friends. Plus! A mystery gift is going in all deliveries this week if you leave us this note – SPOIL ME – at the checkout.
Otherwise we look forward to seeing you for hot food at our place on Magdalen Road on Friday and Saturday evening. We are open from 5-9pm. You can order ahead from 4pm on the day (01865 499318) or just drop by.
Finally, as ever, a reminder of our ongoing free meals project that we operate in conjunction with Oxford Mutual Aid. Massive thanks to everyone who donates towards this. We’re hugely proud to say that Taste Tibet food parcels are going out to vulnerable families every week. You make this happen. You can contribute through our website. Thank you!
