Local filmmaker Will Elsom recently made this short film about Taste Tibet and why we do what we do.
Born and raised in rural Tibet, Yeshi grew up herding livestock on the high reaches of the Tibetan Plateau. He learned to cook inside a yak hair tent at a young age. When he was nineteen, Yeshi walked across the Himalayas to northern India, where he later met Julie.
Yeshi’s mouthwatering momos won Julie’s heart, and they are now married with two children and living in Oxford, UK.
In 2014, Yeshi and Julie started the Taste Tibet food stall. In 2020, during the most locked down days of the 202 Covid pandemic, they opened their first fixed site.
The Taste Tibet cookbook was published by Murdoch Books in March 2022. It was shortlisted in the Guild of Food Writers Awards, and is the winner of a Gourmand World Cookbooks Award.
For Yeshi and Julie, food and wellbeing is a passion, and they have made it their mission to get Tibet on the global culinary map.
