The weekly posts have dropped off since we closed the doors to the restaurant in mid-May. Don’t worry – a summer hiatus is just what we do. Growing up, Yeshi’s family were semi-nomadic, so half the year (the warmer half) he was away from home, herding his livestock from pasture to pasture.
We’re mimicking these rhythms, only we move momos now, instead of yaks. We started life in street food and still get the itch when the sun starts to shine and there are people to feed in beautiful corners of the country.
Our festival season got off to a flying start in May, first at wonderful Wood Festival and then on to Hay. The travelling roadshow is not glamorous. At the Hay Festival we camped for twelve nights in the wind and rain. Surely we were the only authors to take the stage after more than a week under canvas (we scrub up well, but you should know that the changing room was the back of the van).

Then there are the things that go wrong. Often we lie awake at the festival site cursing the thunder of the fridge trailer as the compressor kicks in and out, but there’s no worse sound than that of silence. On Day 9 of the festival we had to call out an emergency engineer from Hereford, who was able to perform only a makeshift fix. Thank you to our delicious neighbours, Bao Selecta, who gave over space in their trailer to several thousand of our momos.
We’re back in Oxford now, prepping for Glastonbury. But a heads up that this Saturday lunchtime we are opening the restaurant for the hungry people of Magdalen Road as our street celebrates its second ever summer festival!

Come by from 11am for momos or a Feast For One. We’ll also have plenty of freezer food for those of you who need a restock.
Looks like we’ve brought the Welsh weather back with us: the forecast isn’t great for tomorrow, so we’re keeping everything indoors this time, but will have a very special momo offering for those who want to try something new. Cheesy momos are a big hit from the cookbook, but this will be their restaurant debut. Come and let us know what you think!
We’ll be up and running from 11am through until 4 or 5pm, and can’t wait to see you. We love our summer of festivals, but always miss the familiar faces of TTHQ. Looking forward to having you in.
