Big News!

It’s been a huge week! Did you catch us on BBC1’s Saturday Kitchen Live? There was a short pre-recorded film [at 01.09:50] about Taste Tibet that gave a bite-sized introduction to who we are and how we got here. Yeshi may never forgive me for sharing the picture of him sporting a top knot in his run-down room in India, but otherwise this was a lovely film that also gave lots of airtime to the work that we do providing free meals to people in our community. The one detail missing was any explicit mention of Oxford Mutual Aid, the local grassroots community support group who identify those in need and deliver for us – a shout out here instead.

We are off to London next week for the BBC Food and Farming Awards, but honestly we feel like we are winners whatever the result. We had people in for lunch on Saturday who’d got straight into their cars in London after watching our film go out. There is so much goodwill around, and we are enjoying every moment.

The next bit of news is more exciting still! Those of you who have been following Taste Tibet since the early days know how much we’ve loved sharing stories and insights – and sometimes recipes – from Yeshi’s home in Tibet through our weekly newsletter. Many of you actively encouraged us to work this all up into a book, and – voila!

Taste Tibet: Family Recipes from the Himalayas will be published by Murdoch Books in March, but is available to pre-order now. It’s a collection of recipes and stories from Yeshi’s home, and includes some wonderful photography from his village – pictures of mum and dad, the family’s yak hair tent, and so on. If you have enjoyed our weekly check-ins from Tibet over the years we think you will love our cookbook. The recipes – tried and tested many times – will make Tibetan cooks out of all of you. Just promise you’ll still come and see us once you’ve mastered the art of momo-making yourselves?

For now, life continues, and we are open again this Wednesday evening through till Saturday night. Here are our opening hours in full:

Wednesday: 5-9.30pm (dinner only)

Thursday -Saturday: 12-3pm (lunch) / 5-9.30pm (dinner)
