Taste Tibet Turns Two

This week Taste Tibet – the takeaway – turns two.

Taste Tibet is of course a lot older than two. We started our food stall in 2014, so the restaurant was a long time coming – it took a pandemic to get us to open real doors.

It was mid lockdown – a real lockdown. Easily forgotten now, but November 2020 was Boris’s second attempt to keep us all indoors, this time in order to “save Christmas”. A short, sharp lockdown that was lifted in early December, and didn’t end up saving the season.

Thanks to our residency at Silvie we already had amazing local support as a takeaway option, and we were insanely busy during those first few weeks (pictured: scenes from our opening night). We tend not to think too much about it all now. Everybody in masks, the two-metre rule, QR codes, signing in and out. It was, let’s face it, an awful time, and yet Taste Tibet got off to the best possible start.

In the two short years since, we have picked up lots of accolades: in 2021 we were Best Street Food or Takeaway finalists in the BBC Food and Farming Awards, and in this year’s Observer Food Awards we were named runner-up in the Best Value Eats category (the most wonderful honour of all: making tasty food that is great value for money has always been central to what we’re about – a challenge that gets more real by the day). This is not bad for a tiny local neighbourhood restaurant based outside of the big smoke.

Yeshi has lots of plans for the future, and we’re on the edge of our seats with some super exciting news that – fingers crossed – we will be able to reveal later in the month. For now, we just wanted to say thank you to everybody who has supported us over these last two years by eating with us, nominating us for prestigious awards, buying our cookbook (another huge event of the last short while) or just sending words of support from afar.

This is a difficult time for our industry and we’re not completely in the party mood, but we’d love it if you came and raised a can of Earth Ale with us this week if you’re able. Now more than ever it’s important to take stock – and to celebrate! Here are our opening hours for the week:

Wednesday: 5-9.30pm (dinner only)
Thursday – Saturday: 12-3 (lunch) / 5-9.30pm (dinner)

Our menu is out now – check the website for full details. Come by for dine in, hot food takeaway or a wide range of dishes from our freezers – individual portions as well as family packs.

Looking forward to seeing you soon,

Julie and Yeshi
